The Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce is looking toward the community’s future as it prepares for the 2012 Annual Dinner and Celebration.Tuesday is the deadline to register for the event, which is set for Nov. 2 at the Lanier Technical College Forsyth Conference Center.“Every year we try to adopt a different theme that helps us tell the story of this past year and the current year,” said James McCoy, chamber president and chief executive officer. “The theme is the idea of predicting our future so the theme we adopted was around magic and fortune telling … and you’ll see elements of that throughout the evening.”The gala welcomes the community’s most active business leaders, as well as state lawmakers, public and elected officials and private employers. With the diverse mix, McCoy noted “it ends up being a really meaningful and fun event.”As part of the futuristic theme, McCoy said a key business announcement will be made regarding a European company that’s planning to open a location in Forsyth. Attendees will hear from the business leader, according to McCoy, and will learn more about the job opportunities that the new facility will create. The company is just one of a series of economic development announcements the chamber is planning for the coming year. They’re all part of the organization’s look toward a future full of growth and new opportunities.Russell Landscape Group Inc. Chief Operating Officer Bob Russell said the event, which his company sponsors, is great for the business community.“It’s a huge gathering,” Russell said. “It’s always been a great event, especially since moving to the conference center.”Also during the gala, a community leader will receive the Charles Welch Award, which to McCoy is “always an incredibly special moment, not just for the recipient but for the community as well.” “And this year’s going to be particularly meaningful,” he said.The event will also feature the Infinity Show Band, dinner and networking opportunities.“When you get down to the nuts and bolts, every business that’s a member of a local chamber, they’re there to network or try to attempt to get business … so it’s always been a great event,” Russell said. “It’s a great business gathering where most leaders and business folks attend, so it’s a good way to make introductions and meet people.”
