The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged home invasion that occurred Tuesday afternoon east of Cumming. Someone called 911 about 3:45 p.m. and reported a woman was being held at gunpoint in her house on Tamiami Trail, which is off Pilgrim Mill Road and near Lake Lanier. Sheriff’s spokesman Doug Rainwater said it appears three men and a woman entered the home and tried “to get into a safe.”“What exactly took place in the house, we’re still trying to sort out,” Rainwater said. The woman had what were described as superficial injuries, according to the sheriff’s office, but was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth as a precaution. She reported that a “well-dressed female with blond hair and blue eyes” knocked on her door “attempting to sell children’s Bibles,” according to a release from the sheriff’s office. When the woman opened the door, the suspects reportedly ran inside attempting an armed robbery, but fled before deputies arrived. Maj. Rick Doyle said the sheriff’s office had tracking dogs and deputies at the scene within minutes, but they were unable to find any suspects. Citing the ongoing investigation, Doyle could not provide additional details, other than to say it appears the situation was random.“There’s no need for panic and alarm. We feel that this is an isolated incident,” he said, adding that patrols have been stepped up in the area “as a precaution.” He reminded residents to use common sense and not hesitate to call 911 to report suspicious activity.
