A second candidate has announced her intention to run for Forsyth County solicitor general next year. Susan Zereini, a veteran prosecutor with 13 years of experience, said her background makes her the most qualified choice. “When the citizens review my record, they will find that I am, by far, the most experienced candidate in this race,” she said.“I will be steadfast in upholding the law and making the citizens’ best interest my top priority and I would be honored to represent the citizens of Forsyth County.” Zereini joins Donna Gopaul, who announced in August that she would seek a full four-year term in 2014. In March, Gov. Nathan Deal appointed Gopaul as solicitor general to fill the vacancy created by former solicitor Leslie Abernathy-Maddox's appointment as a State Court judge. The solicitor general's office prosecutes misdemeanor criminal cases in the county's State Court, as well as some Magistrate Court issues. Zereini has worked in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, N.Y., as well as the Cherokee County Solicitor’s Office and the Pickens County District Attorney’s Office.“I’ve prosecuted thousands of misdemeanor and felony cases,” she said. “My whole thing in this campaign is experience matters and what I can bring to the table after 13 years as a prosecutor, that’s my goal.“My top priority is to bring experience to the job for efficiency and because it’s such an important position because it affects as many people of the county.” Zereini currently runs her own practice and also works with the firm of Burns & Speights PC. She is a graduate of St. John’s University and New England School of Law. Zereini was admitted to the practice of law in New York in 2001 and Georgia in 2006. She and her husband, a local business owner, have two children. They attend Kelly Mill Elementary School, where she volunteers in several capacities, including serving as a member of the PTA. Zereini is also active in many extracurricular activities with her children, including several sports teams and Boy Scouts. The family attends St. Brendan the Navigator Roman Catholic Church.
