The Forsyth County commission on Thursday approved a rezoning from agricultural to Res-3 for Edge City Properties to build up to 46 homes on about 19.4 acres on Nichols Drive. The original request for a Res-4 rezoning was downsized amid opposition from residents, and the developer added some conditions. Area residents and adjacent property owners voiced additional concerns during the public comment period about sewer access, buffers and storm water drainage. The commission approved the rezoning in a 3-2 vote, with Todd Levent and Brian Tam opposed. Also during their meeting, commissioners: * Appointed Robert Hoyt to Forsyth County’s planning board to fill the remainder of the term for the District 5 post. It was previously held by Joe Moses, who resigned in December. * Postponed discussion on an intergovernmental agreement with the city of Cumming for repairing Sanders Road to the closed executive session Jan. 21. The city filed a notice of a potential lawsuit on Jan. 9 that gives the county 30 days to take action. The road has been closed since May, when a nearby dam breached. The governments have been unable to reach an agreement on which will oversee the repairs and how much, if any, each should contribute to the costs. The vote to postpone was 3-1, with Commissioner Jim Boff opposed and Chairman Pete Amos recused, since his wife’s family owns the dam. * Granted a rezoning request from Res-2 to Res-3 for 81 acres on Howard Road. The application from Howard Road Partners calls for 109 single-family homes. Note: All votes were 5-0 unless otherwise noted.
