LAMBERT Coach: Eric Hampton, fourth season Last season: 13-6, 9-1 in Region 6-AAAAAAKey returners: Eric Devries, Drew Lahey, Kevin Mayer and Lincoln Metz Key newcomers: Will Harper, Jack Metzger and Yotam Stern Outlook: Coming off their fifth consecutive playoff appearance and a region championship, the Longhorns hope to go a little further in the state playoffs this year. They were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Peachtree Ridge. "We have a strong returning nucleus, and have some new players this season that should help us be competitive in our region, and hopefully once again be fortunate to go deep into the state playoffs," said Hampton. NORTH FORSYTH Coach: Josh Owens/Jack Sarfaty, third season Last season: 2-13, 0-7 in Region 6-AAAAAA Key Returners: Alex Peacock, soph.; Tony Scheyer, jr.; Aaron Stanton, jr.; Jay Tootle, sr.; Connor Wilson, jr. Outlook: Looking to improve from last season, the Raiders will be leaning heavily on their five returners, who have extensive experience playing at the varsity level. "Even though we only have one senior, the other young men are very experienced veterans and know what to expect from our powerful region," Sarfaty said. PINECREST ACADEMY Coach: Melissa Nevarez, fifth season Last season: 4-8, 1-2 in Region 8-A Key Returners: Adam Rocko Key Newcomers: John Paul Hoover, fr.; Cristobal Urzua, fr. Outlook: Looking to rebuild their doubles team this year, the Paladins expect to be much stronger in 2014, especially with the return of Rocko who went 11-1 as the team’s No. 1 singles player last season with his only loss to Milton’s David Deerham, who is playing for South Carolina. Urzua, an exchange student from Chile, and Hoover should helped bolster the Paladins’ lineup. SOUTH FORSYTH Coach: Ivan Zeitlin, seventh season Last season: 4-12, 2-6 in Region 6-AAAAAA Key returners: Matt Yi, James Gilmour, Anirudh Bikmar, Satwik Nandala, Brice Messerly Outlook: "Our region is one of the tough ones once again," said Zeitlin. "We’re looking forward to being competitive with some of the best schools in the state. We’re hoping to build on last year’s successes and not dwell on the losses." WEST FORSYTH Coach: Philip Lyerly, sixth season Last season: 2-10, 1-9 in Region 6-AAAAAA Outlook: Coach Lyerly admits the Wolverines are still rebuilding but he likes how they are progressing. "We are still very young but with many from last year returning, and I am very excited to see what new talent we have coming," he said.
