The old will meet the new at the Cumming Fairgrounds this weekend.Now in its 11th year, the two-day Cumming Steam, Antique Tractor and Gas Engine Exposition begins today. Put on by the Cumming Antique Power Club, the event features a range of old and new farming equipment. Organizer Michael Moore said attending is a great way to learn more about the history of the United States. “It’s just a good way to see how much we’ve progressed over the last 100 or so years in the types of machinery we use,” he said. “You know, this machinery is what started our country, helped our country get started after the horses and mules and everything.” Moore added that the expo draws about 1,500 and 3,000 people most years. “Usually we have somewhere between 150 and 200 tractors, 200 to 300 hit-and-miss engines and probably 10 to 15 steam engines,” he said. “Mason Tractor, our premiere sponsor, they’ll also have some of their new stuff there so people can just see how [engines] have evolved over the years.” There will also be demonstrations of the fairgrounds’ cotton gin, saw mill and other antique equipment, as well as food vendors. Entrance to the expo is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and younger. The expo will be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today, and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday.
