NORTH FORSYTH -- While the world was watching the 2014 Winter Olympics, North Forsyth High School’s rifle team was focused on its target. The Raider Battalion Rifle Team’s shooters finished third in the recent Marine Corps JROTC National Shooting Competition.“It's a big accomplishment for the team, and we are all very happy about it,” said Maj. Charles Kelly, who heads the JROTC program at North. All five members who were selected to shoot at nationals performed in an exemplary manner, which led the team to its third-place finish. North’s program has consistently ranked among the nation’s top 10. Kelly attributed this year’s success to the team’s dedication, including that of Alyson Godwin, who was ranked the nation’s sixth best shooter. "To be sixth in the nation individually, and ranked third overall team-wise feels pretty good,” Kelly said.
