SOUTH FORSYTH — Forsyth County’s largest library branch will open a used bookstore on Saturday morning. The store at Sharon Forks in south Forsyth will be run by the Forsyth County Public Library Friends and Advocates, which operates similar locations at the Cumming and Post Road branches. Laura Bradley, the library system’s program manager, said the stores provide support for programming and events.“They’ve been able to be very generous with us this fiscal year because they’ve done so well at the bookstores,” Bradley said. “This will be a wonderful resource for our patrons. They offer really great deals on books and there’s always a nice selection too.” Lynn Pansen, president of the friends organization, said the existing sites brought in $30,000 last year.“The library system we have in this county is incredible,” she said. “[Other states and counties] are closing libraries or are opening libraries that only have e-books and no physical books. But we’re still opening brick-and-mortar libraries and offering the community access to very low-cost books, either by borrowing or purchasing.” Pansen said the ultimate goal would be to also open a bookstore in the Hampton Park branch in north Forsyth, though the demand isn’t there yet. The bookstore in the Cumming branch has the largest selection of fiction, nonfiction and children’s books, according to Bradley, who noted it also offers magazines and CDs. The new store will also have board books for babies.“We’ve had such a wonderful success and a wonderful response with the other two stores,” Bradley said. “This new location will be a great addition.” The store will open to the public following a 10:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony.
