CUMMING — It seems Forsyth County residents will have to wait a little longer for a new fresh concept grocery store. Representatives of Arizona-based Sprouts Farmers Market confirmed Friday that they have decided to delay the opening of a Cumming location.“Unfortunately, Cumming will now be a 2015 opening as opposed to 2014,” wrote Donna Egan, director of public relations for the company, in an email.“We simply decided to focus our efforts on four stores in 2014.” The Georgia stores that will be opening this summer and fall include Dunwoody, Johns Creek, Norcross and Snellville. This will be Sprouts’ first expansion into the Southeast. The majority of the grocery chain’s locations are in Western states. While it won’t be opening this year, the Sprouts Cumming location still is slated to occupy the former Stein Mart department store site in Lakeland Plaza. Earlier this year, Sprouts applied for a sign permit with Forsyth County for the 28,000-square-foot location. Sprouts brands itself as a “healthy grocery store,” providing a range of whole and organic products such as produce, bulk foods, dairy, meat and seafood, bakery items, and vitamins and supplements. According to its website, Sprouts has more than 165 stores and nearly 11,000 employees. Most of the locations are in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah.
