SOUTH FORSYTH — The state Department of Transportation plans to shift traffic next week at Hwys. 9 and 141/Bethelview Road. The shift, slated for Wednesday, is part of an ongoing $5 million construction project to rework the busy crossing near Ga. 400 at Exit 13 to create two through lanes, two left turning lanes and a right turning lane for each leg. The shift, which will affect about a quarter mile of road, is set for overnight Wednesday. Lanes will be closed and traffic delayed until it’s completed, likely by 6 a.m. Thursday, weather permitting. In addition to reconstruction, the project will also upgrade the traffic signals and add sidewalks. Construction is projected to finish by April 30. Harold Mull, district construction engineer, said the DOT is intensifying work “on all of our projects” as the weather warms.“Remember, this is a work zone and extreme caution is necessary for motorists and workers,” he said. “Please slow down as you travel through this work zone. Message signs are in place now to alert the community of the upcoming changes.”
