The Longhorns finished the season No. 1 in the final Collegiate Baseball National High School poll after winning the Class AAAAAA championship over Milton in three games. Lambert finished ahead of Barbe High School out of Lake Charles, Louisiana. The two teams have emerged as the clear top two teams in the country according to an assortment of national rankings. The Longhorns finished behind Barbe at No. 2 in the MaxPreps Xcllent 50 National Baseball Rankings, but are ahead of Barbe at No. 1 in the last USA Today Super 25 poll. Lambert got the edge over Barbe from Collegiate Baseball because of its challenging regular season schedule. The Longhorns finished 36-2 but was a perfect 26-0 in the regular season and won the USA Baseball Classic in Memphis, Tennessee, over spring break. Over the course of its historic season, Lambert defeated two eventual Georgia state champions in Blessed Trinity (Class AAA) and Houston County (Class AAAAA), perennial contenders in Parkview and Walton and defending Class AAAAAA champion Milton.
