Six Forsyth County high school baseball players have been selected to participate in the 11th annual Georgia Underclassman Top 100 Showcase, which will take place from June 24-26. Lambert will be represented by rising seniors Will Dunavant, Ian Kimbrell and Nick Guimbarda; North Forsyth by rising senior Brant Stark; West Forsyth by rising junior Mason McWhorter; and Forsyth Central by rising senior Reed Clark. The players were selected by the Georgia Dugout Club’s Scout Committee, which is comprised of professional scouts and college coaches. In total, 107 talent evaluators will be on hand, some of whom represent Major League Baseball organizations. The event is set to begin at 9 a.m., on Tuesday at Georgia Gwinnett College. Participants will go through running, defensive and offensive evaluations, and will all get a chance to play in one of two games. Dunavant batted .357 this year for the Longhorns with a .438 on-base percentage. While the junior outfielder didn’t receive much playing time during the regular season, his RBI single in Game 3 of the Class AAAAAA championship series helped clinch a state title for Lambert, who beat Milton in that deciding contest by the score of 2-1. Kimbrell served as Lambert’s starting first baseman for the majority of this season, compiling a .435 average in the process. His .990 fielding percentage was tops among Lambert’s regulars, as he proved to be one of the team’s more valuable defensive players. Guimbarda, a utility player, hit .333 in 2014 in limited action. Despite taking just 18 at-bats, he scored five runs and drove in four more. Brant Stark, a catcher/infielder, went 20-for-73 at North for a .273 average. He had seven extra base hits — three doubles, one triple, three home runs — to go along with a .346 OBP. McWhorter batted .417 this year for West, serving mostly as a designated hitter. His .594 slugging percentage was second on the Wolverines, as were his three homers. Reed Clark logged 43 innings for Central in 10 games, striking out 42 batters and surrendering just 21 walks. He finished the year with a 3-3 record and a 3.58 ERA.
