With Tucker Maxwell under center last season, Lambert moved Cole to slot back; now, the Horns need his play-making ability under center.“He’s played quarterback half his life,” Lambert coach Louis Daniel said after Friday’s game. “He gives us a different dimension, because he’s an athletic kid that can run a little bit. The kid wants to compete and he had a good week [at quarterback] in practice, so we figured we’d give him a shot.” Gauntlet for Pinecrest Pinecrest passed a major test Friday with a 21-14 win over Trion (rated by the GHSA Power Poll as the No. 2 team in Class A-Public last week). It gets tougher this week. The Paladins travel to Kennesaw on Friday for a date with Mt. Paran Christian, the No. 4 team in Class A overall, where they face the tall task of stopping running back Dorian Walker. Walker rushed for 221 yards and three scores last week in a 56-13 romp over King’s Ridge Christian. The Paladins thought they were moving in to a more manageable Region 6-A-Div. B this season, but that’s not the case. Pinecrest still has Mt. Pisgah Christian (No. 6 in Class A-Private) and St. Francis (No. 10 in Class A-Private) and perhaps a Region 6 play-in game on Nov. 7 left on the schedule. Diebel dominates again If the Forsyth County Offensive Player of the Year award was to go out today, Shaun Diebel would probably win it. Even against Class AAAAA No. 5 Kell, Diebel took over with 158 yards rushing on 23 carries, including a 38-yard touchdown run. The Bulldogs’ junior running back has rushed for 613 yards and seven touchdowns through four games (153.25 yards per game) out of Central’s flexbone offense. Quiet playoffs for Forsyth County? It’s only three games in to a seven-game region schedule, but as of this week, South still would be the only Forsyth County team to make the state playoffs out of Region 6-AAAAAA. Alpharetta, Northview and South are all 3-0 in the region; the three teams have yet to play one another. Centennial and West are tied at 2-1.
