Many eyes will be upon the Dr Pepper ACC Championship Game on Saturday, some only to see if No. 12 Georgia Tech can finally be the team to defeat No. 2 Florida State. The Seminoles have lived on the edge over the past few weeks but managed to maintain their 28-game winning streak. Forsyth County eyes should be fixed on South Forsyth’s Kyle Travis and West Forsyth’s Andrew Marshall. Travis, a senior with the Yellow Jackets, is expected to start at defensive end. It would be his fifth start this season. Marshall, a freshman, is listed as second on the depth chart at center entering the game. He’s appeared in Georgia Tech’s past seven games. Let Forsyth hope it’s a sign of the growing reputation and skill of its high school football talent. And even better sign? Look at the sheer number of former Forsyth County high school football players who made an impact on a college football this season: John DePalma, West Virginia (Pinecrest Academy): The senior long snapper has appeared in all 12 games for the Mountaineers who are 7-5 overall, 5-4 in the Big 12 and awaiting their bowl game assignment. A.J. Erdely, Middle Tennessee (West Forsyth): The sophomore quarterback has appeared in five games, no starts, attempting just one pass that was intercepted as the Raiders went 6-6 overall, 5-3 in conference and await their bowl game assignment. Garrett Frye, Georgia Southern (South Forsyth): The senior tackle appeared in and started all 12 games, finishing his career with 37 straight starts. The Eagles went 9-3 overall and 8-0 in the Sun Belt Conference to win the conference title in the Eagles’ first season as an FBS school. Frye helped Georgia Southern’s offense average 39.8 points and 488.3 yards per game, including 381.1 yards a game on the ground, and set Sun Belt records for rushing touchdowns (55) and rushing yards (4,573). Colby Gossett, Appalachian State (North Forsyth): The sophomore right guard has appeared in eight games, including as a starter in the final seven. App State lost 55-48 to Liberty but finished with six straight wins to finish the regular season 7-5 overall and 6-2 in its first season in the Sun Belt. Bryce Haynes, Ohio State (Pinecrest Academy): The junior long snapper has appeared in 10 games for the Buckeyes, who are 11-1 overall, 8-0 in the Big 10 Conference and play Wisconsin in the conference championship game Saturday. Spencer Haywood, Georgia State (Lambert): The senior linebacker appeared in 12 games and made three tackles (two solo) as the Panthers went 1-11 overall and 0-7 in the Sun Belt Conference. Dustin Gayton, Jacksonville State (West Forsyth): The senior linebacker appeared in just four games (two starts) making six tackles (four solo) for the Gamecocks who are 10-1 and facing Sam Houston State on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. Blake Roberts, Presbyterian (West Forsyth): The redshirt-sophomore running back appeared in 11 games, no starts, rushing for 376 yards and three touchdowns on 82 carries. Roberts also caught seven passes for 55 yards and returned two kickoffs. David Broadus, Richmond (Lambert): The redshirt-sophomore quarterback appeared in eight games, no starts, completing 2 of 5 passes for 32 yards (against Morehead State) and rushing 10 times for 38 yards as the Spiders went 9-4 overall and 5-3 in the Colonial Athletic Conference. Richmond advanced to play Coastal Carolina on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. Jordan Arnett, Berry (South Forsyth): The sophomore defensive back appeared in nine games with 17 tackles and one interception as the Vikings went 2-8 overall and 1-5 in Southern Athletic Association. Austin Hansard, Birmingham Southern (North Forsyth): The senior linebacker played in all 10 games and had 57 tackles (42 solo), good for second on the team, with seven tackles for loss, three pass break-ups and 0.5 sacks as the Panthers went 3-7 overall and 3-3 in the Southern Athletic Association (D-III). Wesley Hansard, Birmingham Southern (North Forsyth): The senior defensive end played in all 10 games and had 36 tackles (25 solo), with nine tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three pass break-ups and one forced fumble for the Panthers. Preston Stafford, John Hopkins (Pinecrest Academy): The junior defensive lineman appeared in seven games and made six tackles (two solo) as the Blue Jays went 11-1 overall, 9-0 in conference and lost to Hobart, 24-21, in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. Bradley Godfrey, Millsaps (Forsyth Central): The sophomore cornerback appeared in six games and made one tackle as the Majors went 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the Southern Athletic Association. Drew Ward, Millsaps (South Forsyth): The junior defensive lineman appeared in nine games and made 26 tackles (eight solo) with 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Grayson Middlebrooks, Sewanee (Lambert): The senior linebacker appeared in nine games and made 13 tackles (nine solo) as the Tigers went 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the Southern Athletic Association. Russell Monyette, Williams College (Lambert): The sophomore linebacker appeared in one game and made one solo tackle as the Ephs went 2-6. Vince Sciorrotta, Delta State (North Forsyth): The sophomore placekicker appeared in all 11 games and made 11 of 14 field goals (long of 47) and 60 of 66 PATs for 93 points as the Statesmen went 9-2 overall, 6-1 in Gulf South Conference and lost in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. Nathan Teter, West Georgia (West Forsyth): The senior defensive lineman appeared in eight games (all starts) and made 23 tackles (10 solo) with 5.5 tackles for loss, five sacks and one forced fumble as West Georgia is 11-2 overall, 5-2 in the Gulf South Conference and facing Valdosta State in the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals this Saturday. A knee injury cut Teter’s season short. Tor Peterson, University of the Cumberlands (Lambert): The junior offensive lineman struggled with injuries but appeared in five games as the Patriots went 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the Mid-South Conference (NAIA) this season.
