CUMMING — Most Forsyth County families had a busy holiday season, but one couple has the rest of us beat. At 10:19 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Northside Hospital-Forsyth welcomed the first baby of 2015. Everley "Evie" Elizabeth Strother was born to parents Emory and Katie Strother of Alpharetta, just days after the couple’s second wedding anniversary.“We like to keep it really, really exciting around the holidays,” Katie Strother said on Thursday when the Forsyth County News caught up with her. “We celebrated our anniversary on the 29th, and had a baby on the first.” Evie, the couple’s first child, weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 19 ¾ inches long. After a few days at the hospital, both mom and baby are doing well.“She seems to be an easy baby, or at least that’s what people are saying,” Strother said. While the couple knew she would be a New Year’s baby, she said they didn’t expect her to be the first one.“We weren’t scheduled to have surgery until 10 a.m., so I thought for sure someone would have gone into labor the 31st maybe and not delivered until after midnight,” Strother said. “We didn’t find out until several hours afterward … it was a really fun surprise.“The hospital brought in a huge diaper cake … with teddy bears and all of these baby things attached,” she said. “It was fun. You’re kind of holed up in a hospital for four days, so it’s nice to have a little excitement.” Strother said she and her husband are just trying to enjoy the experience, adding they “get a lot of new parent advice in this process.”“That’s the one thing people keep telling over and over again is that it goes by really fast and you should take the time to slow down and enjoy it,” she said.“We’re just getting adjusted … and taking advantage of every minute.”
