FORSYTH COUNTY — A longtime Forsyth County public servant has officially stepped down. Doug Sorrells, who served as secretary of the Forsyth County Board of Voter Registrations and Elections, attended his last meeting as a member Monday morning. Sorrells, who had served on the three-member panel since 2010, was previously the county’s clerk of courts for 12 years.“I’ll miss being here,” Sorrells said. “It’s been a pleasure and an honor for me to represent the Republican Party and the citizens of the county.” Sorrell’s replacement Joel Natt, who serves as first vice chair of the Forsyth County GOP, was also at the meeting to prepare for his new duties. Natt will serve the remainder of Sorrells term and can be reappointed after it ends later this year.“It’s good to have Joel here as the new Republican Party representative on our board beginning next month, and I thought it would be good for him to come here and het his feet wet at this one,” said Donald Glover, chairman and chief registrar. “But it’s also sad to see Doug at his final meeting.“Doug has helped in so many ways you can’t count them.” At the end of the meeting, Sorrells made his last “official motion” and adjourned the board. During the meeting, the board also approved advance voting times and locations for elections to be held in 2016, and heard an update on the effort to buy a vehicle the department can use.
