FORSYTH COUNTY — A recent undercover sweep by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office resulted in some employees being cited for selling alcohol to underage customers and two gas stations being temporarily shuttered for license infractions. Sheriff’s deputies checked 13 businesses on Jan. 20, issuing eight county magistrate citations and one city of Cumming citation. Any business that sells alcohol — including gas stations, hotels, bars and restaurants — are subject to the undercover checks. Not part of the January sting, the Quick Stop gas station at 2383 Canton Road in west Forsyth was closed Tuesday morning for having operated since Jan. 31 with an expired permit. Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said the owner was allowed to reopen the store once distributors removed every alcoholic item. To get the license renewed, the owner must receive approval from the county commission. In January, an undercover deputy visited stores with a 19-year-old from the sheriff's office, who attempted to buy beer. Cashiers were cited if they failed to check the customer’s identification or proceeded with the purchase even after checking it. The stores cited for underage alcohol sales were: * Coo Coo’s Nest, 1920 Freedom Parkway * Buford Dam Quick Stop, 2595 Buford Dam Road * Lakeside Stop & Shop, 2380 Pilgrim Mill Road * Ingles, 2835 Keith Bridge Road * Package Place, 3084 Keith Bridge Road * Hammonds Texaco, 3375 Keith Bridge Road * Fuel Starr Citgo, 2775 Antioch Road In each case, the citation was the business’s first. According to the sheriff’s office, the Coo Coo’s Nest also received a warning for allowing a customer to walk out of the establishment with a beer. A second citation was issued to the owner of Fuel Starr Citgo for not having the permit in plain view. The store was shut down for the remainder of the night, Rainwater said. Al’s Quick Stop/Citgo, 1080 Dahlonega Hwy., received a municipal citation for an underage alcohol sale.
