Twenty wrestlers from Forsyth County advanced out of Sectionals this past Saturday and qualified for the GHSA Traditional Wrestling State Championships this week, Feb. 12-14, at the Macon Coliseum. North Forsyth led the way with seven qualifiers. South Forsyth qualified six, Lambert four, Forsyth Central two and West Forsyth one. The Raiders had two runner-ups at the Class AAAAAA East Sectional in Tanner Buggs (160 pounds) and Keigan Radake (182). Hunter Loyd (170) placed fourth, Cole Tenety (106) and Chase Tenety (120) placed sixth and Jake Nash (126) and Zachary Smith (220) placed seventh. South also had two runner-ups in Felipe Hayes (152) and Harrison Young (195). Sam Ranta (106), Jackson Baraff (132) and Brennan McCrum (160) placed seventh and Ben Lemay (126) placed eighth. Lambert was led Eric Diemert (106) and Matthew Sheetz (113) who both finished first at Sectionals and in so doing claimed the top seed at the State Championships. Jack Raines (120) and Eric Kohlins (160) also advanced to state, placing fourth. Knight Bankston led the way for Central, placing seventh at the Class AAAAA West Sectionals at 170 pounds. Hunter Kurowski (120) also advanced finishing eighth. Denver Stonecheck was the lone state qualifier for West, though he made his presence known, finishing second at 138.
