FORSYTH COUNTY — The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office plans to seek funding for bulletproof vests through a federal program During its work session Tuesday afternoon, the Forsyth County commission voted 5-0 to approve the agency’s request to apply for $90,600 from the U.S. Department of Justice Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Program. If the grant application is successful, the county would match that figure, for a total cost of more than $181,000. Also during their work session, commissioners: * Began the process to accept bids on architectural services for the proposed new voter registration building. The facility, which will be built on Sawnee Drive, will be paid for using the capital overlay fund. * Agreed on an upgrade for a new data domain for the information system and technology department. It will be DD2500 NAS and the cost will not exceed $94,221. * Approved spending $181,525 on a site upgrade for an E-911 Motorola antenna. The money will come from impact fees. The move will give the dispatch center more reliability by adding two eight-port high frequency control station combiners with four antennas and two new 800 megahertz control station antennas to the county’s existing 800 megahertz control station. * OK’d raising the water and sewer department’s irrigation meter rates to be in compliance with the state. Under the new rates, those using from 1,000 to 6,000 gallons of water per month will pay $6.80 per 1,000 gallons. Those using 6,000 to 12,000 gallons of water per month will pay $7.93 per 1,000 gallons, while 12,000 to 24,000 gallons users will pay $10.20 per 1,000 gallons. Those using more than 24,000 gallons a month will pay $12.27 per 1,000 gallons.
