Carnahan leads South to 12th place finish at state track meet

South Forsyth’s Savannah Carnahan led the field of Forsyth County athletes at the GHSA Track and Field State Championships, held Thursday through Saturday at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany. Carnahan, a junior long distance runner for the War Eagles, placed third and second in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs, respectively, with times of 4:59.4 and 10:52.4. She was followed closely behind in the 1,600-meter run by teammate Kaylee DuPont, who finished in 6th place in 5:07.2. South’s Milicent Bergey also placed 6th, completing a time of 2:20.5 in the 800-meter run, while Ally Welch had a 13th place result of 4-10 in the high jump. The War Eagles were the highest ranked team from the county for Class AAAAAA, finishing 12th out of the 42-team field. The next closest team was Lambert at 31st place. Amanda Clarke had the best finish for the Longhorns when she earned a score of 5-02 in the high jump, while teammate Reagan Posonski had a score of 5-0 in the same event, good for seventh place. Taylor Oakley finished 13th in the triple jump (35-05.5). Liz Galarza placed fifth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:09.3, while her teammate Courtney Canady scored 16-07 in the long jump to place 14th. West placed 35th. Forsyth Central’s Taliyah Manning placed 12thin the discus and 16thin the shot put with scores of 93-11 and 32-11.25, respectively, while teammate Neo Wilde placed 15thin the long jump with a result of 15-07.75.
