EAST FORSYTH — A portion of a heavily traveled road linking Forsyth and Gwinnett counties is scheduled to close in mid-June for what authorities described as “maintenance activities.” The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lake Sidney Lanier Project Management Office will close Buford Dam Road daily from June 16-18, according to information released by Lance Davis, a public affairs specialist with the Corps. Starting near Sawnee Park in Forsyth, on the western side of the lake, and ending near Pannell Road in Gwinnett, the road will be impassable between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Though “routine maintenance” includes tasks such as sealing cracks and fixing pavement markings, a priority will be to replace street lights across from Buford Dam.“It’s been a long time since we’ve done that,” said Patrick Robbins, legislative and public affairs chief for the corps. The timing was scheduled in an effort not to affect commuters. Questions or concerns may be directed to the project office at (770) 945-9531.
