NORTH FORSYTH -- A Forsyth County contracted ambulance was totaled Friday morning as it was responding to an emergency at about 8 a.m. According to Division Chief Jason Shivers, Med 13 was responding to a wreck on Ga. 400 at Settingdown Road when it was involved in the crash. Shivers said the ambulance was going east on Spot Road, with its lights and siren activated, and had moved into the left lane to pass a group of stopped cars. As the ambulance was passing the cars, one of the cars turned left into the front of the ambulance. The impact sent both vehicles down an embankment at the corner of Spot Road and McCoy Circle. Shivers said both of the occupants of the ambulance escaped injury, although both were taken to an urgent care center to be checked out, and that the other driver was also not injured. Shivers said the ambulance, which is owned by Advanced Ambulance Service is likely to be a total loss, but that he had already been in contact with the owner of the company about a replacement. "They do have a spare unit, and he will have it in service by later this morning," Shivers explained. Med 13 is stationed on Doctor Bramblett Road just north of Canton Highway.Shivers said that deputies have charged the other driver with driving without a license and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. He also said that it turned out that there were no injuries at the wreck the ambulance was responding to, so patient care was not affected by the wreck.
