A Cumming man faces charges of serious injury by vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs after being indicted by a Forsyth County grand jury in October. Ray Dorsey, 52 at the time of his arrest, was indicted on six counts of serious injury by vehicle, a felony, five counts of DUI, one count of reckless driving and one count of open container while driving from a December 2015 incident that injured his passenger. He posted a $13,035 bond in December. He had been transported to the Forsyth County Jail upon his release from the hospital. About 10:45 p.m. on Dec. 5, Dorsey reportedly crashed his 2004 Ford Excursion after driving off the road and hitting two mailboxes, a fire hydrant, a tree and a utility pole, according to the indictment and accident report. When the vehicle came to a stop after Dorsey crashed it into the tree, both airbags went off, the report said. Both Dorsey and his passenger were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where the victim’s injuries were deemed “serious.” His leg was rendered useless, the indictment said. Dorsey was found to be under the influence of a cocktail of alcohol, alprazolam and Xanax, with his blood alcohol level more than 0.08 grams within three hours of driving. Superior Court Judge Jeffrey S. Bagley will preside over the case, for which no trial date has been set yet.
