Northside Hospital is holding a job fair and meet and greet Wednesday as it looks to fill more than 500 new and existing positions at its medical facilities across north Georgia.Pre-registration is not required for the event, which is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the former Marriott Courtyard, 5601 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, across from the Northside Atlanta campus. Those attending will be able to drop off their resumes and meet with recruiters and hiring managers. The Northside health care system has hospitals in Atlanta, Cumming and Canton, as well as numerous other medical sites in the region. And Katherine Watson, a spokeswoman for the system, noted the fair includes many openings at Northside Hospital-Forsyth.“It includes opportunities for the entire system,” she said. “We have about 130 jobs available in Cumming, Alpharetta, Johns Creek and Dawsonville.”The health care field is one of the most prominent in Forsyth.Jason Mock, director of the Healthcare Association of Forsyth County, a division of the local chamber of commerce, said the availability of medical jobs has increased even during the recent economic downturn. “Health care has been an industry that not only Forsyth County but also the state of Georgia and the country has kind of leaned on during this economic downturn,” Mock said. “It’s been kind of the one industry that has not only stayed steady but has increased over that time frame.” Mock noted that Northside Hospital-Forsyth is the county’s second largest provider of jobs, trailing only the local public school system.“It’s the No. 1 largest [job provider] that’s a private, non-government business,” he said. “Northside has really been the backbone of this community in the medical field.” According to Watson, most of the local positions featured at the job fair are in nursing and “those are across many departments at the [Forsyth] hospital.”A range of other posts are also available throughout Northside sites.Some of the areas with jobs include: oncology; surgical services; women’s services; patient access and business; food and environmental services; cardiology; intensive care; and allied health fields such as lab, pharmacy, radiology, and physical and speech therapy.
