Area foundation adds new board members

The North Georgia Community Foundation has announced the addition of eight new members to its board of directors for 2013.The new board members, two of whom are from Forsyth County, began three-year terms in January.Jim Mathis, president of the North Georgia Community Foundation, said in a statement that the new directors “bring a deep commitment to serving the community.” “Their various backgrounds are strong additions to our board,” he said.The new board members include Mary Helen McGruder and Virgilio Perez Pascoe, both of Cumming.They are joined by Loveanne Addison of Clermont, Jeff Ash of Helen, Ronald K. Hopkins Sr. of Jefferson and Chip Frierson, Haines Hill and Lydia C. Starke, all of Gainesville.According to a news release from the foundation, McGruder is chairman of the Forsyth County Library Board of Trustees and serves on the board and executive committee of the Cumming-Forsyth Chamber of Commerce.In addition, she chairs both the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta-Forsyth advisory board and the staff parish committee at Cumming First United Methodist Church.  She is also vice chairman of the North Georgia College & State University Foundation Board of Trustees and chairman of the Sawnee Mountain Foundation.Pascoe is retired after 40 years in the food and beverage industry, including the position of COO with Coors Brewing Co. and PepsiCo. He has served as president of the board of Forsyth County Community Connection and currently chairs Mentor Me North Georgia.He also serves on the boards of Leadership Forsyth and Forsyth County CASA.Founded in 1985 by Lou Fockele and other business leaders, the North Georgia Community Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the spirit and quality of life in northeast Georgia by building, managing and awarding charitable grants from a pool of community funds valued in excess of $40 million. To date, more than $45 million in grants have been awarded. The organization also promotes training and networking among the region’s nearly 300 nonprofits.
