The seventh annual Slugfest Tournament raised $31,500 for local charities.The three-day youth baseball event posted record attendance this year, with 286 teams participating from ages 8 to 14, according to Bill Moats, tournament director.Eight organizations will split the charitable contributions, with the largest sums of $6,300 each going to Northside Hospital-Forsyth and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Moats wrote in an e-mail.Other groups will receive $3,150, including the Miracle League of Cumming-Forsyth, Forsyth County Special Olympics, Humane Society of Forsyth County, Forsyth County Family Haven, the Will To Live Foundation and a sixth charity yet to be finalized.Slugfest has donated more than $170,000 in the tournament’s seven years, Moats wrote.This year’s games were played March 8-10 at parks throughout Forsyth County and neighboring cities. The event began as a fundraiser for the local Miracle League, but has expanded along with the number of participating teams to support other organizations.
