Another 30 parking spaces at the Old Atlanta Park Recreation Center have opened up for lease to Lambert High School students. In August, Forsyth County commissioners authorized 50 spaces at the county center across Nichols Road from the school to be rented out for student parking. The commission voted 4-0 Tuesday, with Commissioner Brian Tam absent, to dedicate 30 more spaces for the remainder of this school year at a cost of $75 and continuing next fall at the going rate. The school year cost of a lease is $300. Students parking on Lambert’s campus pay $110 for one year, and seniors and juniors receive priority.Parks director Jerry Kinsey said the existing 50 spaces at the rec center filled up on a first-come, first-serve basis and the requests keep rolling in.“The staff has been looking during the day and they think we have enough space where we can add these 30 spaces,” Kinsey said. “There’s been some kids that have turned 16 and they’ve been asking and requesting parking spaces.”The additional spots for lease will be near the splash pad, to the left of the center, which opened in February 2012.Starting next school year, the 80 spaces will be available for rent at the $300 rate, which will net the county $24,000 annually.“I’m positive we can fill them up,” Kinsey said.
