For the fifth time since 2004, Forsyth County Schools has been named one of the nation’s top 10 digital school districts.This year, the system came in second place behind a Virginia school system. The distinction was given by the National School Boards Association and the Center of Digital Education.“We have applied for this recognition five times, and each of these times we have been ranked nationally which is almost unheard of for a large district when competing against those across the United States,” said Bailey Mitchell, Forsyth’s chief technology and information officer. “We are thrilled with the honor, and congratulate the teachers and students who have worked hard this school year.”The system’s first award in 2004 was for sixth place. In 2005, FCS won first place. In both 2008 and 2009, the system came in third place. The survey showcases exemplary use of technology to govern a school district, communicate with students, parents and the community and to improve district operations.In a statement, Executive Vice President for the Center for Digital Education Cathilea Robinett congratulated this year’s top 10 finishers, saying “it’s really exciting to see the unique and creative ways districts are using technology.”“These outstanding innovations are moving us forward,” she said. “We see these leaders as an inspiration to other school districts to continue leading education into a digital future.”
