District 9 U.S. Rep. Doug Collins, R-Gainesville, will return to his district Monday to launch a series of town hall meetings.The congressman is meeting with business owners, community leaders and constituents to talk about issues, particularly job creation and development.“We said from day one we wanted to hit the ground running, and that’s exactly what we’ve done the past four months,” Collins said. “I’m excited for all of the upcoming events, but the town halls will be very special.“We’re looking for a great turnout so I can gain insight from my constituents on their legislative priorities, and listen to feedback on what we’ve done well so far and what our office still needs to improve upon.” Collins will begin Monday in Gainesville before heading to an event Tuesday in Forsyth County. He will speak from noon to 1 p.m. at the Coal Mountain Community Building during the North Forsyth 400 County Rotary Club meeting.Later that day, Collins will head up to Big Canoe and Blue Ridge.A former member of the Air Force, Collins’ town hall meetings follow his recent appointment as vice chairman of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa.“This region is vital to the future advancement of American foreign policy, and I am looking forward to contributing whatever I can from my personal insight to promote a better and more secure wellbeing for America in our international community,” Collins said. Other town hall meetings will take place in Ellijay and Jefferson on May 1, Commerce, Cleveland and Blairsville on May 2 and Dahlonega on May 3.“These first few months have been a learning process, and over the past few months we’ve greatly enjoyed serving the people of the Ninth District,” Collins said. “However we realize there is always room to grow, and look forward to making improvements to run our operation more efficiently for the hardworking taxpayers of this great area.”
