The Forsyth County commission has set a public hearing for Oct. 3 on proposed membership fees for county recreation centers. The measure, aimed at improving security, received preliminary approval Aug. 27. Passes would be $10 for residents ages 13 to 54 in the first year and $5 each subsequent year. Residents 55 and older would need a pass, but it would be free of charge. Non-county residents would have to pay $120 annually. Also during their meeting Thursday night, commissioners: * Postponed to Sept. 19 a decision on a contested zoning condition amendment for 14905 Hopewell Group after holding a second public hearing. The requested change would allow adding residential to the existing neighborhood Bethelview Downs instead of commercial. Homeowners in the subdivision have asked for conditions for the new homes. * Heard from residents in Brentwood Estates who applied to remove a zoning condition that requires an undisturbed buffer in back yards adjacent to Longlake, which opposes removing the condition. The commission postponed the decision to Sept. 19. * Approved revisions to county enabling legislation in the first of two required back-to-back votes. The changes, set in state law, bring antiquated language in the code up to date. Note: All votes were 5-0 unless otherwise noted.
