A man whose home was recently awarded to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office in court pleaded guilty to methamphetamine charges on Thursday. Kelly Bruce Wheeler, 47, received a 10-year sentence with three years in prison for possession of methamphetamine in his negotiated plea. His Aug. 22 arrest at his house on the charge prompted the sheriff’s office to file forfeiture paperwork on the home based on a drug history. The occupants had been arrested numerous times for drug violations going back to 1999. Forsyth County Superior Court awarded the agency the two-story, 2,500-square-foot home in Sawnee View Farms in a consent judgment Oct. 29. Wheeler won’t need a residence for some time. Due to the August arrest, he also pleaded guilty Thursday to violating the terms of his probation. Wheeler had been serving a seven-year sentence for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. That probation was revoked Thursday, and he will serve another five years in prison for that case. He also received fines along with each sentencing, which total about $8,300. A condition of his probation states he will receive dollar-for-dollar credit for any money spent toward treatment or education.
