FORSYTH COUNTY — Just a few days remain for Georgians to burn yard debris before a statewide ban takes effect. Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers said the ban, which begins Thursday, originated as a tool to maintain air quality during the summer months. But it also reduces the “risk associated with open burning during what is typically a dry season in Georgia.”“The potential is high for dry summers for what may seem like an innocent, small debris fire to burn out of control to a very dangerous level,” Shivers said. The statewide ban will run through Sept. 30 and is enforced by the county’s fire department. Shiver said there are typically not many violators in Forsyth.“The community as a general rule knows burning within this time period is not allowed and rarely do we ever experience anyone who makes mistakes and burns during the no burning season,” he said.
