SOUTH FORSYTH — Renovations could soon be coming to Midway Park. At a meeting Tuesday night of the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Board, acting Midway Park President Kevin McGlumphy outlined the improvements his organization would like to see made at the site.“There’s kind of four things that we think would really set us apart from other places,” he said. “The first and biggest ticket items are scoreboards … our scoreboards have been in place for 20 to 25 years.” According to McGlumphy, the scoreboards are outdated and still operate with light bulbs and older electronics. Some can no longer be used. He said updating the scoreboards would cost about $35,000, though the Midway group would be able to contribute half of that. Other sought-after improvements include installing: a paved path from one of the parking lots near the lower quad fields; a concrete background around the backstops at four fields; and grass on a muddy hill. In a compromise, the board decided that if the Midway organization took care of the other three projects, the county would handle the scoreboard project. The board approved the measure in a 4-0 vote, with member Kimberly Brown absent. The issue moves on to the county commission for a final decision.
